History Will Remember Those Who Blamed Others Without Taking Action

Siblings in solidarity, by now you have heard that the Supreme Court ruled racial profiling completely legal and appropriate when identifying "illegal immigrants". This effectively shreds the 4th and 14th amendments' protections ensuring equal protection under the law, due process, and freedom from unreasonable search and seizure. That uncomfortable sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach is the death of constitutional rights. 

They overturned an injunction banning immigration officers "from making investigative stops in the Los Angeles area when the stops are based on the following factors or combination of factors: (i) presence at particular locations such as bus stops, car washes, day laborer pickup sites, agricultural sites, and the like; (ii) the type of work one does; (iii) speaking Spanish or speaking English with an accent; and (iv) apparent race or ethnicity."

We can’t always influence national issues. We can affect our community. Gaps in our system landed three of our community members in concentration camps. If our leaders are not swift to act in EVERYONE’s interest, why did we elect them? We did not elect Sheriff Rohrich. Our commissioners appointed him. The Sheriff cannot affect policy, but our commissioners can. History will remember those who blamed others without taking action.
